A banded titan whose rings are the bones of a world that got too close.
Grevath Major is the largest body in the Aethon System by a significant margin — a banded gas giant of amber and rust, visible to the naked eye from Verath's surface as a bright amber point that moves noticeably against the star field over months. Its rings are the remains of Grevath Minor, a former moon that drifted too close approximately 200 million years ago and was pulled apart by tidal forces. Twelve surviving moons orbit in various states of gravitational stability.

Verathen astronomers tracked Grevath Major for centuries before they understood what it was. Early belief held it to be a wandering star — some kind of failed sun that had cooled to amber. The discovery that it had rings (visible through early telescopes as a strange elongation) led to the first dedicated astronomical observatory on Verath. Grevath Major is where Verathen science grew up.
