Phoenix Dwarf

A transition-type dwarf galaxy — caught between an irregular and a spheroidal — the Phoenix Dwarf contains both old stellar populations and evidence of more recent star formation activity. It sits in a relatively isolated region of the Local Group, named for the southern constellation it inhabits.
