Heartroot Leyline Tree

Appearance Full

The Heartroot Leyline Tree presides over Originis' temperate valleys as a ninety-meter spire of silver-grey bark veined in living gold. The trunk is fluted with vertical chord-channels that catch the wind and hum at 88 Hz, audible from a hundred meters when the planet's magnetic chord is high. Broad cordate leaves shimmer jade with gold-traced veins, layering into a forty-meter canopy that admits dappled light to a moss-rich understory. In late spring, bell-shaped ivory flowers cluster seven per stalk, each throat rose-flushed and exhaling a warm beeswax scent threaded with faint ozone. By autumn the tree fruits in fist-sized golden pomes that hum if ripe and fall silent if rotten. The roots reach unnaturally deep, anchoring leyline currents and brightening surrounding crops. A felled Heartroot leaves a bare patch where nothing grows for a generation. Pale Sister's full face is said to make the canopy chord-louder, and Veyari song-priests will tune their staves beside an old Heartroot for a full night before any major working.

Magic Properties

Heartwood resonates strongly with all five Veyari chord-frequencies and is the preferred core for ceremonial chord-staves

Lore

No Veyari subtype claims the Heartroot exclusively; the Concord of Five forbids it. Every settlement old enough to matter is built within walking distance of a Heartroot grove, and the tree's chord is the first lesson of every chord-magic apprentice across all five subtypes. To fell one without the unanimous consent of a Concord council is a crime punishable by exile from one's own subtype, and the silent patch where the tree stood is left unworked for a hundred years.
