Shard is a ringworld — an artificial ring structure orbiting Valyra's sun at 2.1 AU. It is not Valyran-built; it predates their civilization by at least 800 million years. Its interior surface is approximately 600,000 km² — about the area of a small moon — and shows signs of having once hosted a vast biosphere. That biosphere is gone. The ring structure itself is intact, maintained by systems no one has been able to identify, let alone access.
